In our blog from November 2023, we explored the benefits and challenges of Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR) in South Africa. PCR, made by recycling post-consumer plastic waste into a new resin, promised environmental savings, resource conservation and a step toward a circular economy. At the time, PCR was still emerging as a practical solution for manufacturers, with challenges around infrastructure, consumer awareness and material quality.

Fast forward to 2025 and the South African manufacturing landscape has made remarkable strides. Plastic Bubbles is proud to have launched an aerosol dust cap made entirely from 100% PCR material, a product that recently earned the Silver Award for Best Recycled Plastic Product in the SAPRO Packaging Awards. This achievement highlights the growing maturity of PCR adoption in our country, showing that recycled materials can meet high performance standards while promoting sustainability.

Initiatives like this demonstrate that PCR is no longer just a concept, it is a viable solution that drives innovation, reduces environmental impact and supports a circular economy. South African manufacturing is increasingly embracing sustainable practices, proving that economic growth and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

As we celebrate this milestone, our focus remains on pushing the boundaries of recycled plastics. Our award-winning innovation reflects the possibilities that arise when industry, government and communities work together to build a greener future.
